Job Description
We are seeking an experienced manufacturing leader to serve as a Plant Quality Manager. This role will focus on driving a culture of quality, enforcing compliance with customer and regulatory requirements, and leading continuous improvement initiatives within the plant.
The manager will be responsible for developing and executing the quality strategy, implementing built-in quality control systems, coaching plant leadership on best practices, and ensuring supplier and production quality meet or exceed standards. The role also involves mentoring quality teams, overseeing audits, and collaborating closely with operations, engineering, and commercial functions to enhance product integrity and performance.
Purpose of Position:
- Create and promote a culture of quality throughout the plant which ensures product integrity to customer requirements, regulatory compliance requirements, and AMPS standards.
- Drive continuous improvement of internal and external quality performance of products and services, through effective use of product quality architecture, quality management systems, DMAIC & Lean methodologies, and quality metrics.
- Provide leadership, development, and coaching for the plant quality organization.
- As a member of Plant Staff, the PQM shares accountability for overall plant performance for quality, safety, service, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish, communicate, and execute the quality strategy and roadmap, which support the manufacturing strategy for the location and the corporate direction for quality.
- Champion the product quality architecture necessary to prevent and detect quality issues for purchased materials and manufactured goods for the plant. Defined requirements will include form, fit, function, operational safety, and regulatory compliance of the product, packaging, labeling, and any published documentation of the product.
- Implement and refine built-in quality control plans and develop control strategies to make sure product achieves quality targets and applying error-proofing techniques.
- Champion performance excellence methods to ensure continuous improvement is evident from product concept to delivery.
- Provide coaching and/or facilitation of methods and tools for establishment of metrics.
- Provide leadership for quality management systems to ensure systems are effective and aligned with all customer expectations, corporate requirements, industry specific standards, regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Handle expectations for validation of new products and processes or validation of changes to existing products and processes as it may affect form, fit, function, or regulatory compliance.
- Ensure that suppliers provide the highest quality materials that are ready for use.
- Coordinate and lead plant audits as appropriate and represent the plant in a professional manner to customers.
- Report on quality department metrics to plant and business leadership and lead roadmaps for implementation/improvement of key elements.
- As a member of the Plant Staff, you will work towards great outcomes for everyone, including solutions both within manufacturing and collaboratively across key functional groups, Commercial, Technology, and Engineering.
Department Management Responsibilities:
- Assure growth in talent and capability of quality staff, including self.
- Oversee functional responsibilities in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, and/or Quality Systems.
- Build an effective network including Engineering, Operations, Commercial, Division Quality, Global Supply Management, and Regulatory Affairs.
- Participate in establishing annual plant budget, handling department budgets.
- Advocate quality practices and requirements to all departments and functions.
- Travel Requirements:
- We anticipate less than 15% travel for this role.
- Hours of Work:
- Flexible schedule required to spend time on shop floor across all shifts, perform training, participate in customer calls and meetings. Core work hours are 8am-5pm typically.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; BS in Engineering preferred.
- 6+ years in a manufacturing environment with experience in PCPD, utilizing quality systems, and data analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively lead a diverse group of people and influence at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to demonstrate successful supervisory skills in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of ISO quality standards.
Desired Skills:
- Green Belt certification.
- Experience in an assembly operation with the ability to read prints.
- Member of Innovation project team or new product introduction team
