Job Description
American Panel Solutions, a Corning owned solar panel manufacturing site is looking for an EHS Manager. We are located in Tolleson, AZ in a 700,000+ square foot facility with just over 800 employees today.
Scope of Position:
This position is responsible for promoting a safe and healthy work environment for all plant employees, visitors and contractors. The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager will help drive continuous improvement in overall EH&S performance while promoting an interdependent organizational culture. The intent of this role is to lead and effectively integrate EH&S processes/programs into the overall plant strategy while maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and corporate requirement.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Direct and guide the maintenance of the environmental, health and safety (EHS) management systems including the ISO14001 and ISO 45001 programs.
- Direct and facilitate the development, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of all required EHS programs and processes to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Interacts with federal, state, and local regulators to resolve EHS compliance issues
- Establishes permit requirements and leads all site EPA, state, and regulatory audits.
- Leads regulatory and corporate inspections and investigations, including the development and timely closure of any noted actions provided to the location.
- Lead and support EHS team members and GSS element owners by providing training, coaching, and guidance to ensure competency and alignment with all federal, state, local, and corporate requirements.
- Maintain and coordinate facilities’ annual Safety and Environmental scorecard as required by GES/ GSS/ Division and Plant objectives.
- Lead/deploy/execute annual Corporate/Division/Plant EHS strategy.
- Leverage data to develop strategic initiatives to proactively prevent environmental and safety incidents
- Engage with all levels of the organization to establish both short and long term goals for environmental, health and safety improvements.
- Provide guidance and expertise in conducting safety, health, and environmental risk assessments for new or existing processes or equipment.
- Understand and communicate environmental permit requirements and data generated to prepare permits.
- Responsible for submitting state and federal compliance reports for air, waste, water and other programs.
- Support the introduction of new products and processes into the facility.
- Ensure effective development and delivery of all EHS related training and education programs to all employees and maintain EHS records as required.
- Assist with the management of workers’ compensation, and the interaction with doctors and other medical care providers
- Directly supervise the EHS department.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal travel < 5%.
Hours of work/work schedule/flextime:
- Role supports 24 x 7 production operations, weekend support periodic.
- Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health/safety, environmental engineering, or relevant field.
- Required Years and Area of Experience:
- 5+ years of Environmental Health & Safety experience with responsibilities consistent with the job description within a manufacturing environment
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 and other relevant regulations and standards.
- Working knowledge of environmental regulatory programs.
- Understands the principles and execution of the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills (DMAIC, DESGN).
- Experience integrating aspects of EH&S management into the overall operation of the plant.
- Handles time and resources effectively to meet deadlines.
- Information utilization and ability to use electronic databases such as Gensuite
Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:
- Certified safety professional preferred.
- Work experience in manufacturing
